Columbia Orthopedics Hosted Non-Operative Best Practice Guidelines for AIS

Columbia Orthopedics just hosted the 1st meeting of many to work on Non-Operative Best Practice Guidelines for AIS (Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis) on May 17, 2017.  There is so much variability out there for the recommendations around non-operative practices for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, bracing and PSSE (Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercises).  Dr. Vitale has already led the creation of a best practice guidelines around surgical site infection practices in pediatric spine fusion that is now utilized in many institutions.  He is now taking that knowledge and creating a team to address the variability in treating Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis non operatively.  The team that has come together thus far are leaders in the field of Pediatric Orthopedics that focus on Scoliosis.  He is excited to see the team expand to include others in the field to create this best practice guidelines.  It will take a couple of years to complete the best practice guidelines surrounding this topic but when it is finished, Dr. Vitale thinks that it will have a great impact on how scoliosis is treated non operatively.  His new goal is #CureAIS.  Keep an eye out for more about this topic in the future.  Exciting work!
