This patient is now a 14 year old who first saw Dr. Vitale when she was 12 years old. At that time, she had a 43 degree thoracic curve and a 57 degree lumbar curve. The family was given options and risks and benefits of a fusion versus AVBT. The family decided to proceed forward with a lumbar AVBT. This was done with a pediatric vascular surgeon and plastic surgeon. At her preoperative visit, her thoracic curve progressed to 52 degrees and her lumbar curve progressed to 64 degrees.

Post operatively, her 64 degree curve decreased to 29 degrees at the 6 week visit. Her lumbar curve decreased further to 18 degrees one year after her AVBT surgery! She is back to full function and has no complaints of pain.
