Columbia Orthopedics hosted PreOp Spine Class to prepare kids and their families for their scoliosis or spine surgery this summer.  Many kids and their families prefer to have their surgery during the summer to minimize their time out of school.  We host a PreOp Spine Class several times throughout the year to better prepare the patients for surgery.  This last class was held on June 14th at NewYork Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.  We had over 60 people who attended that included patients and their families.  The class has representatives from Anesthesia, PICU, Nurses from the operating room and the inpatient floor, Child Life Specialists, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Pain Team, and the Orthopedic team.  The kids and their families are able to take a tour of the hospital.  This last class, the kids were able to tour the operating room to decrease the anxiety they felt the day of surgery.
